I recently came across some raw, unedited film footage recorded by Leo Maguire around our wedding on 12 November 2011.
Our story was included in Britain in a Day, a feature-length documentary made from footage filmed by people across Britain on 12 November 2011. The project invited members of the public to record a day in their lives, creating a collective portrait of Britain through hundreds of individual stories.
Leo spent 24 hours with me and my dad, travelling between our home in Stroud and Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, where Dad was receiving care.
During the day, Leo recorded conversations with Dad, including stories about me growing up in Iceland and memories from his years promoting concerts there. This is raw, unedited material and is very different from the photographs, contracts and memorabilia I have been uncovering for Bits + Bobs, but it feels like an important part of the archive.
Dad sadly passed away on 5 January 2012, less than two months after this was filmed.
I thought this was a fitting clip to share as part of Bits + Bobs. It captures Dad talking about his life, Iceland and some of the experiences I am now returning to and researching more than a decade later.
